ArcelorMittal, a world’s leading steel and mining company, owns two blast furnaces in Fos-sur-Mer, Southern France. These industrial installations are used for smelting of cast iron and steel.
In June 2016, ArcelorMittal consulted IS2I for the refurbishment work of automation and flue gas cleaning control center on the ArcelorMittal blast furnace No 2. After six months of reserach leaded by the IS2I teams, the on-site operations started in June 2017 to be completed at the end of 2017.
IS2I, subsidiary of COMECA specialised in industrial automation, has completed the refurbishment work of automation and flue gas cleaning control center on the ArcelorMittal blast furnace No 2 after 11 months of work.
ArcelorMittal benefited from the specific know-how of IS2I, who offered an industrial solution including:
The transfer of the flue gas cleaning’s automation functions from S5 PLC (old range of Siemens PLC) to S7 PLC (latest PLC range) was performed in partnership between IS2I and ArcelorMittal.On-site work was particularly sensitive since the refurbishment work was completed while the blast furnace was in operation.
This was a particularly sensitive project, given that the work was carried out while the blast furnace was in operation. The changeover of the automatic systems was carried out in a very short period of time of just 10 days.
Staff at IS2I committed themselves to ensuring the highest safety throughout the 12,000 hours of work that the project entailed.
A challenge won by IS2I, with a project completed on time and a blast furnace that gradually restarted at the end of the intervention.
“This project is a new trust mark from ArcelorMittal to IS2I,” explained Christophe Betencourt, Sales Engineer at IS2I. “Our customer particularly appreciated the quality of the completed research and the availability of our staff, both on-site and in our offices”.
